Why Collaborative Law

For Samya, a collaborative approach to family law combines strong advocacy with acceptance and mutual understanding. She believes an attorney can advocate firmly for a client while still approaching the process in a way that invites, rather than isolates, the other party from the conversation.

When both parties come together with effective collaborative law attorneys, meaningful progress can happen. That does not mean hurt or anger are ignored, nor does it mean there will be no conflict. It means those difficult issues are addressed in a setting designed to help the parties work through them productively.

At its best, collaborative law brings people together in the same room for structured, purposeful conversations about the issues that matter most. The process is intended to be transparent and understandable, rather than leaving parties feeling that decisions are being made somewhere behind the scenes or that they are entering an unfamiliar and intimidating process. Each person has the support of their own attorney, and the discussion moves forward with clear goals and a shared understanding of what needs to be resolved.

Collaborative law also allows other professionals, such as financial neutrals and family specialists, to join the process when helpful. Together, the team keeps the parties' goals, concerns, and priorities at the forefront of the discussion while helping them make informed decisions and explore workable solutions.

Samya believes that family law should not leave families more damaged than when the legal process began. Particularly when children are involved, the parties will often remain connected long after their case ends. How they reach a resolution can therefore matter almost as much as the resolution itself.

For Samya, the goal is not simply to avoid litigation. It is to help families resolve disputes in a way that is thoughtful, practical, and sustainable, while reducing unnecessary conflict, expense, and stress and creating a stronger foundation for whatever comes next.

When we truly listen and seek to understand, we create the space to resolve conflict and move forward.
